Quilt

This quilt is one of my longest projects. I started this sometime in 2015 and finished it maybe in 2018 and it has taken me another 3 years to click a picture of it.

Back in the US, I took a quilting class with a dear friend of mine. When we started the class, she did not have fabric yet, so she helped me make some of mine. I have fond memories of both of us hanging out at the class and then at each other’s homes sewing together. We started with this, then also stitched dresses for our daughters. She made a huge bookshelf pattern quilt for her daughter which turned out super awesome. Someday I want to make it.

The colourful strips in the middle were from a jelly roll and then I purchased the yellow and blue fabric separately.I love that they sell these coordinated strips of fabric for quilting. They just look so good together.

I am happy I chose to make a big adult size quilt. Now we spend many winter afternoons sitting on it crafting.

Another baby kurtha

This is another little kurtha for my 11 month old daughter. It has a little lace frill in the front and opens all the way along the back with snap on butons.

Baby Aprons

I had earlier sewn a few bibs for my daughter. But she is a messy eater and we soon found she needed something that covered her all the way. So I turned a few receiving blankets into bibs/aprons for her. Let's see if these help reduce the mess our little messy missy creates.

Baby Kurtha

This was a fun project for me. The entire kurtha took just a little over an hour to stitch because of how tiny it is.

Fitted sheets for crib mattress

We received some fabric with cute baby patterns as gifts. So when we needed more than one fitted sheet for the crib mattress, I decided to use up all the fabric and sew fitted sheets myself instead of buying more. I followed this tutorial to get me started. It's one of the easiest sewing projects ever! I don't think I'll ever buy fitted sheets again!

The first one below is from a flat single bed sheet. The crib mattress we have is 28x52x5 inches. So I cut out a rectangle 46x70 inches and cut out 9 inch squares from the 4 corners and joined them together to get the boxed corners. Leaving just a 1/8 inch give in the hem for the 1/4 inch elastic, I threaded the elastic with a safety pin.

This second one is from bits and pieces from a quilt project and the first fitted sheet. I joined the pieces to get a 46x70inch rectangle and then cut out 9 inch squares from the corners.

This last one is my favorite. I absolutely love the fun print in the center. A close up of the print is below.

Sewing machine cover

I had some fabric left over from my printer cover project. So I decided to stitch a cover for my sewing machine. It took me less than 20 minutes to finish this project. But it's one of my favorites. Every time I look at the sewing machine, I feel very satisfied looking at the cover!

Tailored Printer Cover

We love our HP Photo printer. We have several framed prints of our vacation pictures all over the house.

So when I got in a mood for sewing one day, I decided to stitch a cover for our printer. I had this great bargain fabric from Walmart that was just perfect for the printer.

The design and measurements took me a while. It took me almost half a day to figure out how to go about stitching the cover for the front projection. I ended up cutting out a rectangular section of the front piece slightly smaller than the boxed cover for the front projection to allow for seam allowance. I stitched that part separately and then attached it to the main front piece.

The other thing I had to be careful about was making sure the lines in the fabric pattern were all in the same direction (horizontal).

The sewing part itself was pretty interesting in that I have never made anything box shaped before. I learnt how to do this from the TV show Sew It All. I thought the corners came out very neat.

The cover fits the printer like a glove, yayyy! There is nothing more satisfying than designing something from scratch and seeing it come to life!

Let me know what you think of it in the comments section.
