When I was in college in Pondicherry, one day I sent my dad to the tailor to pick up some clothes. He saw a foreigner trying to ask the tailor something in English. The tailor had no clue what she was telling him so my dad offered to help. Turns out she wanted bits and scraps of fabric so she could make a quilt. He gladly agreed to give her, so eventually everyone was happy. So my dad then invited her home for dinner and Catherine from Spain agreed to come. My mother made idli, chutney, sambhar and Kesari. She ate the Kesari with Sambhar and announced it was delicious 😀.
The reason I wrote about all this is that it was Catherine who brought this cloth and embroidery floss as a gift for me. I started it right away, did very little and then set it aside for so many years. This has travelled all the way from Pondicherry to Bangalore to Vegas and then to Noida without a stitch being made. It’s a wonder it did not get lost somewhere. This lockdown made me look for something really slow, so I picked it back up and completed it. Now every time I look at it, I think of her and this whole story.
Very neatly done. Excellent work

ReplyDeleteI don't remember about having gone to the Tailor Or meeting Madame. Catherine there at the Tailor's shop. But, I do remember her enjoying the dishes, prepared by my wife. It was all new to her. Probably, she was tasting those dishes for the first time.
ReplyDeleteThe embroidery work is very nice. 👍👍
It is really very nice to know that you could preserve the Cloth and the Embroudery Floss for such a long time so carefully.
ReplyDeleteAmazing work
